Use less single-use plastic in your home.
One of my goals this year is to use less single-use plastic items in our house. Ideally we would get rid of these items all together. But, in full transparency, I still store a roll of plastic wrap in my pantry. Sometimes you want to quickly cover that bowl of half eaten soup without dirtying another container. Am I right?
In this article I will be introducing you to a plastic wrap substitute from BeeKind Vegan Food Wraps. This is a plastic free food storage solution that is handmade locally in Canada. I will also give you an honest review and explain how to properly use and care for this product.

Cost, Contents and Size
I came across these antimicrobial, vegan wax food wraps from BeeKind at my local grocery store for around $22.00 CAD for a pack of 3 different sizes. The three pack comes with a 6 inch, 9 inch and 12 inch wrap. The wraps are made of Canadian Beeswax, Cotton Fabric, Pine Tree Resin, Organic Jojoba Oil.
Company Goals
BeeKind is a female run, Canadian company based out of Vancouver, British Columbia.
“We aim to bring you incredibly beautiful and useful zero-waste products that don’t break the bank”.
“Being environmentally friendly should be the standard, and we hope to be a much-loved part of your eco journey”.
These statements sounded great to me but would they work?

Dry Food Storage and Functionality
I have to admit that I was skeptical at first. When you first feel the product it is very stiff and awkward. I assumed from the texture that air would get in the jar and the food would dry out. But I was very wrong! I first tested the wax food wrap over a jar of marshmallows that I stored in my pantry. I am happy to report that the marshmallows stayed just as soft as if I had used plastic wrap.

Wet Food Storage and Functionality
I also tested this with some sourdough starter to see if there would be any leaking. You get a very good seal with an elastic band around the top. This works well for things like sourdough starter or pancake mix. But, liquids will leak out the side eventually if the container were to fall over. It held up better than I thought it would though! The liquid didn’t pour out right away. It held the majority of it in really well. Just a slight leak out the side. And lets be honest, plastic wrap does exactly the same thing.
