Does anyone else have a child who is obsessed with Minecraft? My 8 year old son absolutely loves this game and everything to do with it. He has Minecraft water bottles, Minecraft shirts, and even Minecraft stuffies on his bed. I wanted to surprise him this week with a fun after school snack so after some brainstorming and searching I decided to make these delicious Minecraft cookies.

Why I Love These Minecraft Cookies

Simple Ingredients

One of the reasons I like this recipe is because all the ingredients are ones I generally keep in the house so it was actually really easy to whip these up.

A kitchen countertop displaying various jars including ingredients like salt, brown sugar, and chocolate chips, alongside eggs, butter, vanilla extract, baking powder, and a Minecraft-themed book.

The Taste and Texture

Both my son and my husband commented on just how delicious these cookies turned out. They have a rich, almost caramel, taste from the brown sugar. They are soft on the inside and crip on the outside. This texture lasted for a long time too. I would say the texture was still great even 5 days later.

You Can Make These Ahead of Time and Freeze Them

When it comes to birthday parties, I really like things that I can make ahead of time. There are too many other things to thing about on the day of the party. So, these Minecraft cookies are a really handy treat to add to your video game party food. You can make them ahead of time and freeze them. They will keep for up to 4 months in the freezer.

Simply lay them our on the counter for 30 minutes before you want to eat them and they will be just as delicious as if you had made them that morning.

How Do I Get The Pixel Look To My Minecraft Cookies?

You can purchase 3D printed cookie cutters off of Etsy that are made to look just like the real Minecraft cookies from the game.

We happen to own a 3D printer. Which has become an extremely fun family activity. I wrote an entire post about why I think these are a better purchase for your children than other electronics such as a Nintendo Switch. However, my point with mentioning this is that we were able to print our own Minecraft cookie cutter. My son was so excited to create and use his very own Minecraft cookie cutter. We got the file from Maker World from the designer Gaspertt16. It worked really well!

Make A Stencil

I understand that not everyone has access to Etsy or a 3D printer and if this is the case you can use a self made stencil. Simply draw out the shape you want on some parchment paper and then place this over the rolled out dough. Then you use a sharp knife to cut out the shape you want.

  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Room Temperature Butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • tsp baking powder
  • tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Equipment

  • 1 Stand Mixer optional
  • 2 Cookie sheets
  • 1 Pixel Cookie Cutter/ Stencil
  • 1 Parchment paper optional

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line your cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In your stand mixer or bowl cream together the brown sugar, sugar, eggs, butter and vanilla.
  3. Add the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda to the wet ingredients until a dough is formed.
  4. You can add the chocolate chips in now OR wait until after you roll out the dough and place to chocolate chips on top for a more Minecraft-y look. If you are short on time, just add them in now and mix into the dough.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut your cookies out. Place them on your prepared cookie sheets.
  6. Bake these at 375℉ for 8-10 minutes. DO NOT OVERCOOK THESE! They are much nicer if they are a bit softer.

Notes

You can freeze these for up to 4 months.
These will stay fresh on the counter for 24 hours. Then transfer them into an airtight container for 7 days.

Okay, the first time I made these cookies mine didn’t keep their shape either. I figured out that it was because my house was too warm. If you are working in a warm kitchen, I would recommend placing your cut out cookie dough shapes in the fridge for about 20 minutes before baking.

If your house is a normal temperature and you are still finding that they are too “puffy” you can completely leave out the baking soda and baking powder form the recipe. This makes them more of a sugar cookie base and tends to keep the shape really well.
